Upon first inspection the pipework was split open just before it exits the tank. There was only one pump installed and one pedestal was damaged. The existing floats were wrapped around the Unistrut. The pipework, valves, Unistrut and lifting chains were are all badly corroded.
|
The junction box was damaged and all the connections were corroded and water damaged. The cable management was poor. The gate valve is also broken.
The old pump was expensive and the pipework was 3". This is for a domestic sewage pump station and the size can be reduced in this circumstance to reduce costs. |
Solution and work quoted -
Instead of installing a new second pump, pedestal and repairing the existing pipework, we recommended the pump station is rebuilt to save future costs and have a system working in good condition. We provided an accurate quote to the customer which they accepted. The visit required confined space entry, two engineers and a tanker to be onsite whilst the work was carried out.
In between the original visit and carrying out the final works, a free visit was included to install a temporary repair to the pipework. This saved the customer having to continue paying for a tanker to empty the chamber every 2 days which can create a large bill. We were able to install a fix to the pipework whilst the parts and tanker were organised.

Twin pump station rebuild (After) -
Complete removal and installation of two new pumps. 2" PVC Class E pipework. Float support bracket and lifting chains. Separate junction boxes for the pumps and float connections. New Unistrut. We installed 2" ball stop valves instead of swing check valves as they are better quality and less likely to get blockages and can't seize.
|
As we were able to reduce the size of the pumps and pipework from 3" to 2", we were able to reduce the cost of the pumps by around 60%. The new pumps are more energy efficient than the old ones so they will already start to return money to the customer.
